CCS1 Charging Networks
The CCS standard is renowned for its DC fast charging capability and has seen significant growth in network support, particularly in Europe. However, its presence in North America is also rapidly expanding. The main networks in the United States and Europe, such as Ionity, are primarily dedicated to deploying DC fast charging stations compatible with CCS standards, recognizing their importance for charging high-speed electric vehicles.
For example, operators in the United States are expanding their national networks through numerous CCS compatible fast charging stations to accommodate the increasing number of electric vehicles equipped with CCS. In Europe, BMW, Ford, Daimler AG, and Volkswagen Group are also working closely with partners to deploy a wide network of CCS fast charging stations along major highways, making long-distance electric vehicle travel more convenient.
Although the J1772 Type 1 standard remains the backbone of most household and public AC charging needs, the rise of CCS1 and its fast charging capabilities is significantly enhancing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, especially for long-distance travel and fast charging. This development highlights the shift in the charging landscape of electric vehicles, with increasing emphasis on reducing charging time and improving efficiency.
