Switzerland Awards Five Additional Contracts for High-Power Charging Stations
The Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has granted contracts to five companies for the construction of new high-power charging hubs along the nation’s highways. The awarded contracts include bids from charging point operators like Fastned and GOFAST, as well as providers affiliated with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
This project stems from a tender issued in February 2024, where FEDRO sought proposals for new fast-charging hubs across five lots, each containing eleven sites throughout Switzerland. Applications were accepted until mid-May.
The following companies have been awarded contracts:
- **Lot 1:** Fastned Switzerland AG
- **Lot 2:** Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging Europe GmbH
- **Lot 3:** Atlante Italia S.r.l.
- **Lot 4:** Electra Charging Switzerland AG
- **Lot 5:** GOFAST AG
According to the announcement, FEDRO received seven applications in total. “Following a comprehensive review, contracts have been awarded to the top-rated applicants,” stated the authority. After the agreements are signed, the selected companies will have three years to plan the charging hubs and secure construction permits. They will manage all aspects, including planning, financing, building, connecting to power, and maintaining the hubs.
This is not the first instance of such tenders in Switzerland. In December 2018, operators could apply for five contracts, each with 20 charging stations. In March 2019, FEDRO awarded contracts to five companies, including GOFAST and Fastned.
While GOFAST and Fastned have received contracts again in 2024, the other three operators are newcomers to the program. In the previous round, contracts went to Groupe e, Primeo Energie/Alpiq E-Mobility, and SOCAR Energy Switzerland. The inclusion of two automotive-related companies, Atlante, which has strong connections to Stellantis, and Mercedes-Benz HPC, marks a new development. Notably, although the Mercedes-Benz HPC subsidiary will operate eleven charging parks, the charging points will remain accessible to the public.
