The WATER EV fast-charging network has partnered with Korea Expressway Corporation to set up 209 ultra-fast chargers at 46 highway service areas across South Korea.
These charging stations will feature both NACS and CCS connectors, making them the first of their kind in North America, according to Brite Energy Partners (BEP), the company behind WATER. The chargers will offer power capacities of 200 kW and 350 kW and are expected to be fully installed by the end of 2024.
Of the total chargers, 87 will be deployed in the Gangwon region, with other installations planned in key areas such as North Chungcheong and Busan. Korea Expressway Corporation will provide the sites, while WATER will handle the installation and operation of the chargers for the next 10 years.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Korea Expressway Corporation to deploy 209 ultra-fast chargers on the country's highways," said Daewon Yu, CIO of Brite Energy Partners and Head of Water Business. "Our advanced charging stations will alleviate EV range concerns and accelerate South Korea's transition to electric vehicles."
