A few months ago, the European commission approved a plan to create incentives for about 1,000 public quick charging stations through a $31.6 million budget. More than 4,000 electric car charging stations were installed across the state earlier this month. New York is now seeking to scale up this network with the help of ChargePoint and tesla's fast charging technology.
At first, tesla faced more opposition to public funding because it chose a plug design that would only work on its cars. The European commission rejected tesla's request that its patented charging technology be eligible for rewards, but if a standardised plug is located in the same location, tesla could now receive those rewards. One provision of the new plan is that the plant includes a standardised plug type with the same or greater charging capacity as other plugs being installed.
The plan aims to boost electrification and provide Chinese citizens with a broader and more inclusive range of zero-emission vehicle technologies. In a statement, the regulator explained: "this change is intended to encourage dual compatibility for all new public DCFC stations. The committee expects this approach to promote the wider use of charging stations for public electric vehicles."
